Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
Nisshi is a Mac app built so your work journal stays yours, on your Mac. This policy explains what that means in practice, including the few optional features that do talk to other services.
What Nisshi collects
Nothing. Nisshi has no servers and no accounts. Your journal entries, tasks, meetings, goals, documents and generated summaries are stored in a private database on your device. We never receive, see or store a copy.
Analytics and tracking
There is none. Nisshi contains no analytics SDKs and no advertising networks, and it does no cross-app or cross-site tracking. It does not use the App Tracking Transparency framework because it does not track you.
Summaries and drafts
Nisshi's summaries and suggestions are written by a model you choose:
- Apple's on-device model (the default). Processing happens on your Mac, and nothing leaves the device.
- Your own provider (optional). If you connect Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, Google (Gemini), a company gateway or another endpoint you configure, the text needed for each request is sent from your Mac directly to it, under its privacy policy and terms. Nisshi has no server in between and keeps no copy. You can disconnect at any time.
Connecting an assistant (optional)
If you turn on Connect an App in Settings, assistant apps on your Mac, such as ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor, can connect to Nisshi. Nisshi only accepts connections from your own Mac, never from your network or the internet. A connected assistant can read the parts of your journal you share with it and write entries to it. What it reads is then handled by that assistant and its provider under their own privacy policy and terms. You choose which tools an assistant is offered, and you can turn this off at any time.
Calendars (optional)
Apple Calendar. If you grant access, Nisshi reads events on your Mac to match meetings to the people you track and to prepare 1:1 notes.
Outlook. If you connect Outlook, you sign in with Microsoft in your browser and Nisshi reads your calendar from Microsoft. The sign-in token is kept in your Mac's Keychain, and you can disconnect at any time.
Either way, events are never changed and are not sent anywhere else.
Updates
Copies of Nisshi downloaded from this website check nisshiapp.com for a newer version, at most once a day. The request carries no information about you or your journal. Copies from the Mac App Store are updated by Apple and make no such request.
Backups and exports
Nisshi backs up your journal once a day to a folder on your Mac and keeps the last 14. If you choose, it also copies each backup to a folder you pick, such as iCloud Drive, OneDrive or an external drive; that copy is then kept by whichever service holds the folder. You can export your data at any time. Exported files are written wherever you choose and are entirely under your control.
Children
Nisshi is intended for professional use by adults and is not directed to children.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which, like any web host, keeps standard server request logs, including IP addresses, for security and reliability. We do not use those logs to build a profile of you, and we do not combine them with anything else.
The feedback form. If you send something from the Support page, we store your message, its type (bug, suggestion or question), your email address if you choose to give it, your browser's user agent and the time, in Google Firebase. We use it only to read and reply to you and to improve Nisshi. Ask us and we'll delete it.
Europe and the UK (GDPR)
The data controller for this website is Tarun Kolla, trading as Olta Labs. You can reach us using the contact details below.
The app collects no personal data. Nisshi has no servers and no accounts, so we hold nothing about you from the app: no profile, no copy of your journal and no record of how you use it. That shapes what your rights under the GDPR mean in practice:
- Access and portability. Your data is already in your hands, on your Mac. You can export all of it at any time from within the app.
- Rectification and erasure. You can edit or delete anything directly in the app, including erasing all of it. Because we never receive a copy, deleting it on your Mac deletes it everywhere we could reach. Feedback you sent through this website we delete on request.
- Objection and restriction. There is no processing of app data by us to object to or restrict.
- Complaints. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
If you choose to connect your own AI provider or an assistant, the text involved goes from your Mac to that service, under your own account and its privacy policy. We are not in that path and never see it. You can disconnect at any time, and Apple's on-device model, the default, sends nothing anywhere.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
